How can we help?
Getting started
How do I start tracking my drives?
Create an account, add your vehicle in the Garage (we fill in its MPG automatically), and drive. You can tap Start for a live trip, or turn on automatic detection so every drive records itself.
▶ Video: Getting Started — coming soonDo I have to press start every time?
No. Turn on automatic drive detection and LiveGasCost records your trips on its own in the background — even with your phone in your pocket.
Which phones does it work on?
iPhone and Android. Your data lives on the phone; add Cloud to sync across devices or use the web login.
Tracking & classifying
How do I mark a trip as business or personal?
Swipe it. Business or personal, plus an optional purpose or client note. Business miles stay separated for tax time.
▶ Video: Classify Your Trips — coming soonCan it label my regular drives automatically?
Yes. Nickname the places you go ("Home," "Office"), set your work hours, and repeat routes get pre-labeled — you just confirm.
I forgot to track a drive. Can I add it?
Yes — add a trip by hand with the date, distance, and purpose, and it joins your log like any other.
Gas price & costs
Where does the gas price come from?
We use your region's real average gas price, updated automatically. Know your exact pump price? Type it in for precise costs.
▶ Video: Settings & Your Gas Price — coming soonHow is my cost per drive calculated?
Your vehicle's real MPG and the current gas price: (miles ÷ MPG) × price per gallon. That's the number you watch climb live.
Do I have to keep re-downloading the app for new prices?
No. Prices refresh in the background on their own — you never touch it.
Taxes & reports
What mileage rate do you use?
The current IRS standard rate — 76¢ per business mile as of July 1, 2026. We apply the correct rate to each trip's date, so a mid-year change is handled automatically.
How do I get my tax report?
One tap builds an IRS-ready mileage log with your business/personal split and deduction. Export as PDF or CSV, or email it to your accountant.

No — LiveGasCost gives you accurate records and estimates. Your actual deduction and tax outcome depend on your situation; check with a tax professional.
Pricing
What does it cost?
Free to start. A one-time 99¢ unlocks the live gas gauge and IRS tax reports — no subscription to log your miles. Optional Cloud backup & sync is $5/month or $50/year.
What exactly does Cloud add?
Cloud backs up your trips, syncs them across your devices, restores them on a new phone, and powers the web login. Your data still lives on your phone either way — Cloud is just the safety net and the sync.
Cloud, privacy & your data
Is my location data private?
Yes. Your drives live on your phone by default; nothing uploads unless you turn on Cloud. We never sell your location, and we're fully Google-free.
Can I delete my data?
Yes. Deleted trips sit in a 30-day trash you control, then they're gone. Turn off Cloud or close your account and your server copy is purged.
Can I use it on my computer?
Yes, with Cloud — log in at the website to view and classify trips and run reports from your browser.

How does LiveGasCost for Teams work?
A company sets a reimbursement rate, invites drivers, and their approved business miles flow in for review and payroll export. Drivers see exactly what's shared before joining, and the company only ever sees business miles — never personal trips, commute, or live location.
