Privacy Policy

LiveGasCost is operated by Live Gas Cost LLC, a Wisconsin limited liability company ("we", "us"). This Privacy Policy explains what the LiveGasCost app does with your information. The short version: We collect only anonymous crash reports, to fix bugs. We never track you across apps, and we never sell your data. There is no account, no server of ours, and no cloud copy we hold — your drives are written to your phone and never reach us. Section 3 covers the one copy that can leave your phone: your own iCloud or Android backup, which we cannot see. Section 7 lists everything we do collect. The rest of this page is the detail behind those sentences.

1. We have no account for you

LiveGasCost has no sign-up, no login, no email address, and no password. We do not ask you who you are and we have no way to identify you. Nothing in this policy describes a profile we hold about you, because there isn't one.

2. Your driving data stays on your device

Everything the app records about your driving is written to private storage on your phone, and none of it is sent to us:

• Vehicle information: the year, make, model, fuel type, and MPG of the vehicles you add.
• Trip data: distance, duration, idle time, estimated fuel used, and estimated cost.
• Location data: the GPS coordinates of your route, recorded while a trip is running so the app can price each mile.
• Motion activity: if you turn on automatic drive detection, the app uses your device's motion sensors to recognize when you start and stop driving.

None of this is uploaded. We do not receive it, we do not store it, and we could not produce it if we were asked to. There is no server-side copy of your trips, your routes, or your location — not encrypted, not anonymized, not at all.

3. The one copy that can leave your phone: your own backup

Worth naming plainly, because the rest of this page is emphatic and this is the exception. If you use iCloud Backup on iPhone or Android's backupon Android — the same feature that moves your photos and messages to a new phone — your phone may include LiveGasCost's data in that backup, exactly as it does for every other app you have installed.

That copy is yours. It lives in your own Apple or Google account, under your own credentials. We have no access to it, no way to request it, and no way to know it exists. It is also what lets your trips survive a lost or replaced phone, which is why we leave it on rather than switching it off. If you would rather it were not there, you can exclude LiveGasCost in your phone's backup settings and nothing else about the app changes.

4. Background location

A drive does not stop when your screen does. If you grant background (or "Always") location access, LiveGasCost continues recording your route while the app is in the background or closed — but only while a trip is actually recording, either one you started or one automatic drive detection recognized. Android shows a permanent notification the whole time this is happening. That route, like every other route, is written only to your phone.

When no trip is recording, the app does not collect your location. You can turn automatic drive detection off, or refuse background access entirely, and still track trips manually with the app open.

5. What we never collect

We do not collect your location when no trip is recording, and we never collect your drives, routes, or trip history at all. We do not collect your contacts, photos, or messages. We do not collect an advertising identifier — the IDFA on iOS and the Advertising ID on Android are both switched off inside the app — and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

6. We do not sell your data — there is nothing to sell

We do not sell, rent, or broker personal information, and we do not share location data with anyone. This is not a promise we have to police: your trips and routes are on your phone and never reach us in the first place.

7. The crash data we do collect

The app uses Firebase Crashlytics, a Google service, so a bug that only happens on a phone we have never held still gets fixed. That is the whole list. There are no usage counters of any kind: the app does not count launches, drives, screens or purchases, and the code that used to is gone rather than switched off.

• Crash reports. What went wrong and where in the code.
• With each crash, whether the phone was real or an emulator — so our own test runs stop being counted as your crashes.
• With each crash, which part of drive detection failed — whether it was a permission, a licence, or something else.

That is all of it. None of it carries your name, your email, a device identifier, an advertising identifier, or any part of a drive. We never send Google a user ID, and there is no code in the app that could.

One exception, while it lasts. The paragraph above describes the current app. The removal shipped in the Android build dated August 2026 and in every build after it; the TestFlight build currently on iPhones is older than the removal and still sends the anonymous counts described in the previous version of this page. If you are on the iOS beta, that is what your phone is doing until the next iOS build reaches you. This note comes down when it does.

The practical consequence, and the reason we call it anonymous rather than merely private: we can count these things in aggregate, but we could never point at one and say it was you. That is also why we cannot delete one person's share of it on request — there is no "you" in the data to find.

We do not use Firebase Performance Monitoring, which would record which addresses your phone requested and when. That is a far larger disclosure than a crash report, and the app does not need it.

7b. The trip planner

The trip planner works out what a drive will cost before you make it, and the money is worked out on your phone. Two parts of planning do leave it, and only while you are planning:

• Drawing the road. The coordinates of the stops you put in the planner go to our own routing server so it can draw the real road between them and measure it.
• Searching for a place by name.What you type in the planner’s search box goes to our own place-name server so it can offer you addresses — together with roughly where your phone is, so the results are places near you rather than famous places far away. If your phone has no location fix the search still works; it just gets less useful ordering.

Both are machines we run ourselves — not a maps company and not a search company. They have request and error logging switched off, so what you send is used to answer the request and is not written down anywhere. Neither is contacted while a drive is being recorded, and saved places and map pins never leave your phone at all. The search waits until you have typed three characters and stopped typing, so it sees a search rather than every keystroke. Your recent destinations are kept on your phone and matched there, so opening the search box and picking somewhere you have been before sends nothing at all.

When neither server can be reached the planner still works: it estimates the distance offline, and it tells you on screen that that is what it is doing rather than presenting a guess as a measurement.

8. Data sources

The app looks up two kinds of reference data that have nothing to do with you: fuel prices from the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) and vehicle MPG from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) database. Map tiles come from OpenStreetMap. Place names are matched on your device against a bundled GeoNames data set, and — when you use the planner’s address search — against our own place-name server as described in section 7b. These reference requests ask for prices and map data; they do not carry your trip history.

9. Purchases

LiveGasCost sells one thing: a one-time unlock for the live gas cost. The payment is handled entirely by the App Store or the Android store you installed from — we never see or store your card details, and we do not receive a list of who bought the app. Your unlock is held by that store account, which is why restoring it on a new phone is done through the store rather than through us.

10. Data retention and deletion

We retain none of your driving data, so there is nothing for us to delete and no request you need to make. Your trips live on your phone: delete a trip in the app and it is gone, and deleting the app removes every drive with it.

The anonymous usage and crash data in section 7 is retained by Firebase on our behalf under the standard Google retention periods. Because none of it is linked to you, it cannot be looked up by person — which is also why we cannot single out and delete one person's share of it on request.

11. Your California privacy rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected about you, to request its deletion, and to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information, and we do not hold your driving data, so there is nothing to disclose, delete, or opt out of. If you have a question about this, email support@livegascost.com.

12. Your rights in the EU/EEA and UK (GDPR)

If you are in the European Union, the European Economic Area, or the United Kingdom, you have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. Because we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to produce or erase — your drives never reach us, so you already hold and control all of it directly. 13. Children

LiveGasCost is not intended for and may not be used by children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

14. Security

The strongest security property this app has is that your driving data is never transmitted: there is no account to breach, no database to leak, and no sync channel to intercept. Your trips are protected by your device's own storage protections and screen lock, which is why keeping your phone locked and updated matters.

15. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the date at the top and surface the change in the app.
